The Pull – 10-1-14

aug140566dWake up, wake up, wake up, it’s the first of the month, so cash your checks and by some comic books. Ok, ok, lame. I understand. I couldn’t resist, though.

Here’s what I’m picking up this Wednesday:

Injustice Gods Among Us Year Two Annual #1

Swamp Thing #35

TMNT #38

Fade Out #2

Walking Dead #132

Death of Wolverine #3

Silver Surfer #6

Thor #1?

Well, I have a few, very good books I’ll be picking up. First off, Swamp Thing. As you may already know, Charles Soule signed an exclusive contract with Marvel, so his days writing for DC are over for the foreseeable future. The sad part is that Swamp Thing has been pretty damned good since he took the reigns. With just a few more Swampy issues to go before he leaves, I hope he does something unforgettable.

Speaking of Soule, so far the Death of Wolverine has been a really great read. Steve McNiven, in particular, has been knocking it out of the park. This guy may be my new favorite artist. If the story sucked, which it doesn’t, this book would be worth the hefty $5 price of admission for the art alone. Read it.

With the new Walking Dead TV show season just around the corner, this book is sure to pick up in sales again. The current arc has been relatively quiet in the post-All Out War world. Something big is bound to happen, but when this happens, who knows. This slower, quiet storyline has been a good read even without the action and violence. Also, it is a pleasure to see Stefano Gaudano retain his inker role as this does a lot to improve the overall quality of Charlie Adlard’s work.

Finally, what’s with that question mark around Thor #1? Well, I’m just not sure if I’m going to be picking that one up. Sure, it smells of “gimmick” all over the place, but when you have Jason Aaron at the helm here, you can’t help but feel that this ship is headed in the right direction. If you are going by Aaron’s God of Thunder alone, you know this book is in the best hands it can be in.

That’s all I have for today, folks. What am I missing? What should I be reading? What do you plan on picking up? Let me know in the comments!
