Just over the horizon are two huge, super-hero movies coming hot off the heels of the excellent Deadpool. Batman V Superman and Captain America: Civil War are those two films. DC’s film is out first, and it seems like the general consensus is that this is the most anticipated movie of the two, and fair enough. I’m sure many, many people have been waiting for what seems like an eternity to see those two icons go toe to toe in a gritty movie. Me? I’m in the same boat. And the weird thing is, I honestly feel like Civil War will be the better of those two movies.

When you look at Marve’s recent track record, there really aren’t any significant blemishes. Age of Ulton seemed to fall flat, being one of Marvel’s low points, but it was not a bad movie by any means. And many agree that Captain America: The Winter Soldier was just about as good as any other recent Marvel film, in fact, it was excellent. There really isn’t a reason to think that Civil War will be a bad film. The only thing holding it back, though, is super-hero fatigue. People just don’t seem so excited about it, myself included.

And then you have Batman V. Superman, the “sequel” to Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel. MoS was just about as polarizing a film as you can get. Many abhored it and many enjoyed it. I fall on the “enjoyed it” side. I thought it was a great, gritty take on the Man of Steel. Sure, I realize it has its shortcomings, but all in all, it was a fun ride. But after seeing so many trailers for BvS, I can’t help but feel like there is simply too much going on and I feel like I already know the entire plot, which doesn’t seem too interesting to me. I’m sure many feel the same way.

Still, though, when it comes down to it, BvS is still my most anticipated movie of the two. I just hope we don’t get a super predictible and flat movie. Based on the previews, if that really is Doomsday at the end, if Superman “dies”, that may make the whole thing completely worth it.
