Walking Dead #125 Review
Hot damn. There is a whole lot of talk and not too much action throughout most of this issue, but what you see in the very last panel is as big of a fist-pumping moment that you could ever ask for.
Robert Kirkman continues to find ways of making you think things are going a certain way only to pull the rug from beneath your feet. Warning: spoilers abound.
As we all know, there is a copious amount of disdain for Negan and not all of it comes from Rick and his allies. Led by Dwight, a rebellion is underfoot among Negan’s army. Thinking that Rick is on his deathbed due to a tainted arrow to the gut, Negan is ready to pounce and take action against what remains from a Rick-less camp. Much to his surprise, Negan confronts Rick’s camp to find our favorite leader front and center…and alive.
At this point in his life, Rick is a force to be reckoned with. This is a man with a plan that seems to always find ways to take advantage of his situation no matter how dire things seem to be. This issue proves that Rick is as devious and cunning as Negan. In fact, Rick is more dangerous than Negan when pushed hard enough.
I’ll admit, approaching the end of this issue, I thought Rick’s little speech about joining forces with Negan was legit and that Negan’s agreement with it was a ruse. I mean, Negan admitting that Rick was right all along seemed like the perfect set up for a classic, “SIKE!” Negan moment. But we’ll never know as Rick took a knife to Negan’s throat in what may go down as one of the greatest moments that this series has offered.
There’s only one issue left in the All Out War arc and this is a key issue. The ride so far has been fantastic, and I can’t wait to see the end.
