Events events events. Let’s get to it. I have been huge proponent of Brian Michael Bendis’ Battle of the Atom. While the event/crossover has been nothing short of great so far, it has been supplanted as my favorite event of the year by none other than Hickman’s epic Infinity event. Yep, this is why Avengers #21 gets my comic of the week this time around.
I have said this before, when it comes to Hickman’s work since Marvel Now, I am a virgin. I think that is what makes the Infinity event so fresh to me. I came in with a blank slate and while I was lost at first, the story is told well enough for me to get enjoyment out of it. In fact, while the overarching epic is great in and of itself, I find the moment to moment action of the series fantastic. The way Hickman has written Captain America as a master strategist and tactician is fist-pumping awesomeness. When it’s all said and done, I have a feeling that we are going to look back on this event as a cornerstone in the modern Marvel Universe.
Moving on, Dan Slott’s Superior Spider-Man continues to be great while Guardians of the Galaxy seems to be faltering a bit compared to where the series was heading a few months ago. One must learn not to underestimate Brian Bendis, however, so we should give it some time.
This week also marked the return of Hawkeye after a brief hiatus. While not the best thing ever, the book was an enjoyable read that deals with the fallout of Grill’s death while getting Clint’s brother in the picture. One observation, though, aren’t you glad that this book is still $2.99 despite it’s unlikely success?
Well, that’s all I have for now. What were your favorite books this week?
