The Pull – 1-22-14

oct130716Last week was great. Before I go through my pull list, though, I would like to give some honors to my book of the week for last week: Uncanny X-Men #16. The Brian Bendis/Chris Bachalo team is back and better than ever. In a stunningly awesome tale centered around Magneto, the creators behind this book gave us a very lucid and memorable story. I can’t commend them enough for the way they have portrayed Magneto in this issue. Uncanny has been a very solid book and is off to a fantastic start this year. And before I leave last week behind, I have to give props to Mark Waid and Chris Samnee for delivering yet another fantastic issue of Daredevil.

That aside, here is what I plan to read:

Batman #27

Walking Dead #120

Hawkeye #16

Superior Spider-Man Team-Up #9

X-Men #9

On the way home from work today I was thinking about how awesome Matt Fraction’s new Image books have been and began wondering where the hell Hawkeye went? As successful as that book has become, it’s perplexing that the book’s release schedule has been so sporadic over the past year. As each issue comes out, I find myself digging deep to remember what happened the previous issue. That’s too bad as this was once my top Marvel book. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still up there. If there is anything we need more, it is Hawkeye, so I guess I can’t complain; we get the book this week.

I have said this before and I will say it again, Batman’s Zero Year arc has been hugely disappointing for me. The arc is good, and at times great. The art is nothing short of breathless. The overall story, however, feels a bit off. I just get this funny feeling that there just needs to be more. I can’t quite put my finger on exactly what, but I just feel like I am reading issues that are giving me 70% instead of 100%, thus leaving me a little empty. Ahhh, that may not make sense, but it is the best way I can describe it now. Maybe in the end when things come together, something will hit me like a ton of bricks. But so far, this arc is a far cry from Court of Owls and Death of the Family.

On the opposite side of things, The Walking Dead is giving us a full steam 100% with its All Out War arc that has exceeded my expectations. It is also VERY nice to get this book just about every other week.

I know, it’s a short list this for me this week. What are you planning on picking up? Let me know in the comments!
